Pressure Washing Terracotta Roofs

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Another day in the pressure washing business here. Today we had to clean a few two-car garage complexes with terracotta shingles. Terracotta is one of the easiest type of roofs to clean, if you know how to do it right. I try to avoid getting on the roof as much as possible with terracotta shingles because they break easily. Instead I like to clean them from the ground with an electrical pump sprayer and just the right mixture of chemicals.

The owner told us the last company broke some of the shingles when trying to clean the roof, so we made sure not to even step foot on the roof.  These terracotta shingles were a lot thinner than some of the shingles I’m used to seeing which explains the breakage.

Usually you can walk on them and not a have a problem if you are careful. Of course, in most cases their really isn’t a need to get on the top of these type of roofs or even need to use the pressure washer.
